Certain events can trigger an earlier review. This includes earning income at or above the SSA’s approved level of Substantial Gainful Activity ($1,690 per month in 2026 for non-blind individuals), information from third-party reports that your condition improved, or your own report of medical changes.
How to Prepare for a CDR and Protect Your Florida Social Security Disability Benefits
The outcome of a CDR depends almost entirely on the quality of your medical record at the time of review. Steps that protect your benefits during the process include:
- Continue regular treatment with your physician and any specialists, as gaps in care are among the most common reasons CDRs result in termination notices.
- Ask your treating physician to document not just your diagnosis but how your condition specifically limits your ability to work.
- Respond promptly and completely to all SSA correspondence, since failing to return forms by the deadline can result in an automatic suspension of benefits.
- Keep records of all medical records, including appointments, medications, and any worsening of symptoms in the period leading up to your review.
If the SSA determines that your condition has improved and tries to terminate your benefits, you have the right to appeal. Filing a request for reconsideration within 10 days of receiving a cessation notice allows you to continue receiving benefits while the appeal is processed.
